26 February 13.
You may remember the blog we did on the new Harvey Nics Beauty Bazaar a few weeks ago... One of the exclusive products they stock is the Shade & Illuminate palette by Tom Ford. Just the name did it for me, not to mention the sexy packaging. On Sunday I bit the bullet and bought the palette from the lovely Jemma on the counter. At £55 it's probably the most expensive piece of makeup I now own! What you do have to remember is that you are actually buying 2 products in one... And if it does the job £55 is a small price to pay for cheekbones like Kim K.
Yesterday I had a long overdue restyle on my hair, courtesy of my good friend and top stylist James Begley. We still have one more colour stage to go but already feeling a new woman I gave my new palette practice run yesterday.
( I always need a trial run to get to grips with a new product before its blog worthy.)
Today I'm feeling like a new woman, free of my Wizards Mane at last! I thought I do a nice natural makeover combining my Shade & Illuminate.
First I used Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow and Mulch by Mac to create a fresh natural eyeshadow look. I then applied my Color Ideal base without any powder.
I highlighted first using YSL touché éclat as the highlighter in the palette is fairly sheer and slightly pearlised perfect for cheekbones and the cupids bow of the lips ( probably the brow bone too), but not for down the nose, under the eyes or under the cheekbones. To contour your face I would recommend you apply your touché as seen above in the photos.
I then used the Shade in the palette to create contrast against the highlight. Using my real techniques expert face brush I blended the shader under my cheekbones and a touch around my temples. It has a creamy texture but once blended feels dry to the touch. I would recommend getting the 01 palette as the shader is a lovely golden colour ( not orange at all ) . You need to blend it into your foundation to avoid getting stripes. I actually prefer this now to using a bronzer as it's a lot more sheer so looks a lot more natural. I hope to do a blog using it for more of a going out makeup soon.
I then used my fingers to blend the highlighter on top of my cheekbones and to the Cupid's bow of my lip. It creates a fresh dewy look rather than a shimmer like vanilla making it perfect for daytime wear. I also think a more mature client with a few fine lines would prefer this to a shimmer.
Overall, I feel very satisfied with my purchase. It's definitely added something to my makeup bag. If your on a budget it may not be for you, but if your a makeup addict and fancy a little treat you'll love it.
Its available to buy from Harvey Nichols in Liverpool One. Jemma on counter is lovely and helpful I'm sure she'd be more than happy to demonstrate how to use it.
